Olivia Connelly

Director, BA, DipEd, GCertEdSt

Olivia inaugurated Gameplan in 2008 in order to support children, adolescents and adults with language and literacy needs who appeared to be falling through the cracks of the education system.

Olivia has over 12 years’ experience working in schools as a classroom teacher and special educator and her passion for language and literacy began when she was 16 and suffered a head injury as a result of a car accident. Olivia’s head injury resulted in language and literacy difficulties and she discovered first-hand what it was like for children in schools who struggle to learn. Olivia overcame these difficulties and now she pours this understanding into her work with children, adolescents and their parents.

In 2009, Olivia presented the findings of her pilot study on boys with learning difficulties and the emotional impact on them at the International Association of Special Education conference in Spain. Olivia also presents regularly to national sporting organisations on the impact of low literacy and numeracy on elite athletes. She is a registered consultant with Learning Difficulties Australia and is a board member of the Learning Difficulties Australia Consultant’s Committee. Olivia co-ordinates the Australian Cricketers’ Association literacy and numeracy program. In 2011, she developed the national literacy and numeracy program for the AFL Players’ Association and continues to help deliver the Wellbeing program to participating players.
